STANLEY PORTELLI
Dr Caius
A lawyer by profession, Stanley first started involving himself in music as choir member of Schola Cantorum Jubilate in Gozo, and the Co-Catherdal Choir in Valletta. In July 2017, he formed part of the Monteverdi Project, today the Abos Project, which has the aim of training singers in ensemble work and Baroque vocal and musical techniques. His repertoire includes choral and solo pieces by Claudio Monteverdi, Orlando di Lasso, Bartolomeo Barbarino, and other XVI to XVIII century composers.
In the operatic sphere, he has performed in productions at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta, including Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito (2014) and Le Nozze di Figaro (2017), as well as Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (2021). He made his role debut as the Doge in Rossini’s Otello (2020) at the Manoel Theatre and performed as Parpignol in Puccini’s La Bohème and Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly at the Aurora Opera House in Gozo. His oratorio repertoire includes the tenor solo in Les Sept Dernières Paroles du Christ by Dubois (2022) and he also performed in recitals in Malta and in Gozo.
Stanley Portelli is currently studying with Soprano Gillian Zammit, and also attends the Opera Nova Project, where he had the opportunity to further his studies in classical voice and performance, and attending masterclasses with Hedwig Fassbender, Paul McNamara, Claire Debono, Joyce Fieldsend, and Tatiana Lisnic.
