The islands of Malta and Gozo carry a distinguished legacy of operatic and performing-arts culture, rooted in centuries of Mediterranean exchange and European influence.

With multiple established theatres of historical importance on the Islands, mainly Teatru Manoel, The Royal Opera House in Valletta, Teatru Astra & Teatru Aurora in Gozo demonstrate that Malta is not simply a sun-sea destination, but a place with deep musical and theatrical roots which over time, has cultivated talent and established community pride around opera and theatre.

Establishing a national opera company embedded within our Maltese identity gives us the opportunity to perform and expose our local talent on an International plain. MNO is the extension of the Mediterranean musical culture to the world.
